Backing up with free online storage (Dropbox)

Backing up important files can often be difficult and complicated.
Why bother with online storage?
If you have ever had a computer break or get completely corrupted with viruses and lost all your data you'll know why online storage is a good backup to have.

So here is in my opinion the easiest, free and best online storage option to choose.

why dropbox?
Its free,
Its easy to use,
It can have Multiple dropbox folders accross multiple computers sync and has
on line retrieval from web browsers without having to install dropbox

Here are two examples of how online storage with dropbox could help a college student
Example 1:
A College student has his/her College folder within dropbox.
An assignment is due in.
The assignment is finished and saved in the college folder (within dropbox) and a copy added to a memory key for the lecturers hand up date.
The due Date arrives, but the memory key goes missing.

The student can log into his/her dropbox account and select the college folder and retrieve a copy from the dropbox online storage system.
The student can even link the assignment to his/her lecturer for direct download. Or download the file again from the login itself.

Example 2:
A student who has his/her college folder within dropbox, spends a day correcting an assignment he/she assumed was wrong. Turns out the original was correct.
Dropbox not only has an autosave when connected to the internet but also has a file role back feature. The student can role back the file and retrive the correct version
(within 30 days of changes)

This feature can be found when you log in online at www.dropbox.com and select sign in. see the rest of the blog post for details

Dropbox has a free version. This free version provide an initial 2GB of online free storage space
This free account does not expire, so you will always have it.

There is also the option of inviting other friends via your dropbox account to increase your free storage capacity. To a maximum free storage of 16GB.

Thats quite an impressive free storage space if achieved.

these backed up files can be accessed via www.dropbox.com and selecting the sign in tab located top right of the page.

To get the most from the dropbox folder, its best to put for example your "college folder" inside the dropbox folder.
